Perfect microwavable pastry. You won’t believe your pies. Using a blend of Gluten Free Flours (although you will never know our pastry is gluten free) combined with Butters and Oils, we make the most beautiful firm textured pies available today. The pastry is also infused with flavour to compliment the filling. Use Directly from the freezer -18 to the microwave, heat on Full Power for approximately 3 1/2 mins, then allow to cool for 1 minute to help the pastry rest.
Here comes the science.....
Microwave ovens are so quick and efficient because they channel heat energy directly to the molecules (tiny particles) inside food. Microwaves heat food like the sun heats your face.
It is often said that a microwave oven works in reverse to a conventional oven, by cooking from the inside out. This is not strictly true as most microwave ovens, either turntable or dual magnet (open cavity) generate energy evenly throughout the molecules of the food.
Standard Pastry in a microwave would not give you a great eating experience. Those of you that have tried it you will know that it either becomes soggy, chewy or taste of oily burnt butter, that is because microwaves are extremely intense and the butter has a low flash point that will not withstand the heat whilst the pie-filling reaches above 75 degrees celsius.
At Green Tomato, we use a perfectly balanced blend of Butters & Oils, along with precision milled gluten free flours to give all our pies a great tasting firm texture. By blending the ingredients with other carefully measured 'all natural' ingredients we have created a pastry that CAN & does withstand microwaves for 3.5 minutes, giving plenty of time for the 'Chunky' meat or vegetable pie filling to achieve temperatures above 75 degrees Celsius. After heating simply rest the pastry for 1 minutes whilst you plate up the veg and chips.
A conventional oven will take time and energy to heat up, when at the required temperature it would take around 35 minutes to re-heat a pie from frozen or 20+ minutes from chilled. A 900w microwave will re-heat our pies in around 3 and a half minutes & including a further resting time of 1 minute, it can be with the consumer in 5 minutes, saving up to half an hour!
Being ex-chefs, we have created our pies specifically with the caterers in mind. We supply each pie in its own sealed box to help avoid cross contamination with any other Gluten containing menu items in your freezer storage.
As the pies are microwaveable we have not used foils that just get thrown away! instead all our pies are fully cooked in individual metal pie tins, each one is decanted by hand, inspected for quality, then blast frozen within minutes to retain all of its fresh ingredient qualities & placed directly in to a food-safe, neat little box.
This product will free up space in your main oven and mean you don't need to make your own gourmet pies. It could also minimise your food waste because you cook our pies from frozen which means you won't have to throw away unsold defrosted pies. Our products also reduce your metal packaging waste.
Tender cuts of British Chicken Breast, cooked in a creamy Pinot Grigio white wine sauce with sliced Mushrooms, finished with Chives, encased in a Tarragon infused short crust pastry topped with Poppy Seeds.
British Red Tractor Beef Chuck Steak with Carrots & Swede, slow cooked in a Gluten Free Savernake ale (5.3%) from Kennet & Avon Brewery, encased in a Mustard Seed short crust flavoured Pastry, dusted with Paprika.
British Red Tractor Lamb shoulder cuts cooked slowly in a rich Red Wine & Mint sauce, in a delicate Rosemary infused short crust Pastry topped with Flaxseeds (Brown Linseed).
British Potatoes, Leeks & Onions simmered in a West Country Cheddar Cheese & fresh Cream sauce, finished with fresh Chives then encased in a Black Onion seed Pastry sprinkled with Italian hard cheese.
